FIRST-EVER MASAI GIRAFFE FOR THE THEME PARK EXPLORES NEW SAVANNA HOME, GETS NAMED “MOSI” IN VOTING ON THE DISNEY PARKS BLOG

What: Masai giraffe calf born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is exploring his new Kilimanjaro Safaris home. Named “Mosi” (means “first”) in voting by readers of the Disney Parks Blog, the calf becomes the first ever for the Disney theme park.

  • Native to southern Kenya and throughout Tanzania, Masai giraffe join reticulated as giraffe subspecies found on the savannas of the park.
  • With his mom, Mosi ventured out onto the Kilimanjaro savanna for the first time Tuesday.
  • Runnerup names: Baraka (“blessing”) and Shingo (“long neck”)

Where: Disney’s Animal Kingdom is one of four theme parks at Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

  • The park is home to more than 1,500 animals representing 300 different species.
  • Giraffe herd is visible on Kilimanjaro Safaris and Wild Africa Trek
