B-Roll & Soundbites: Real-life Griswolds Travel to Walt Disney World in a Very Famous Automobile

Filed in: Beyond the Theme Parks

The real-life Griswold family — Steve, Lisa, Brooke (age 3) and Amber (age 8) — brought their newly remodeled “Wagon Queen Family Truckster” to Disney’s Art of Animation Resort at Walt Disney World in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.  The Griswolds, from Canton, Ga., are on their first Disney World trip in the custom-built car. The automobile was made famous in the 1983 motion picture “Vacation,” in which Chevy Chase portrayed Clark Griswold.  In the film, Clark Griswold purchased the spacious Family Truckster to take his wife and two children on a cross-country tip to the fictional “Walley World” family fun park in California.  Steve and Lisa Griswold, who are travel agents in Canton, Georgia and frequent Walt Disney World guests, said many of their customers remarked about their famous last name so they decided to begin a quest to create the film’s iconic car.  The “metallic pea”-hued station wagon, which Steve had customized to the smallest details, was completed approximately two weeks ago.  Next on the real-life Griswold’s list of “Truckster travels” is Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California.  The family’s vacation to Walt Disney World coincided with the 30th anniversary of “Vacation.”  The film debuted in theaters July 29, 1983.
