LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla., Sept. 27, 2011 — The Orange County School Board recognized the efforts of Walt Disney World Resort and its Cast Members recently for their commitment to supporting Orange County Public Schools.
Within the last year:
• Walt Disney World Cast Members donated 2.1 million school supplies for the annual back-to-school drive, an effort that illustrates the company’s commitment toward building a better future for Central Florida’s children.
• Walt Disney World, for the second consecutive year, awarded the school district a $50,000 Disney Helping Kids Shine grant, which has been used to fund tutoring programs and materials needed for science, technology, engineering and math activities and courses.
• Disney VoluntEARS gave nearly 17,000 hours of their own time to the school system — from serving on Parent/Teacher Association boards to assisting teachers in the classroom.
“The classroom contributions of Disney’s VoluntEARS and the generous financial support of the Walt Disney company is critical to the continued success of Orange County Public Schools,” said Bill Sublette, elected board chairman. “The giving spirit of Walt Disney World and its Cast Members to our community’s schools and children for more than two decades is truly remarkable.”
