LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla., June 23, 2007 – With the help of Walt Disney World, The Tampa Bay Buccaneers Rookie Club and children from the Pine Hills branch of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida enjoyed a Saturday morning at DisneyQuest, a five-story, indoor theme park in Downtown Disney. The Buccaneers’ drafted first-year players and the children designed their own roller coasters, and then and took them out for a virtual experience on CyberSpace Mountain. They also rode the rapids in the Virtual Jungle Cruise and become Pirates of the Caribbean in the Battle for Buccaneer Gold, among other virtual-reality experiences.
The morning activities were supported by Disney Helping Kids Shine. Walt Disney World’s community programs and partnerships are focused on building better futures for children in Central Florida, and ultimately, a stronger community for everyone. It is the goal of Disney Helping Kids Shine to engage children in society by creating healthy, guiding relationships with adults, providing constructive free time activities, offering character-building opportunities, and encouraging a sense of compassion for others, while helping those children who face adversity.
The Buccaneers Rookie Club was established in 2001 to help the team’s first-year players learn more about their new community while serving worthwhile charitable organizations in the Tampa Bay area. The club kicked off its 2007 season of community events by bowling with children from two local Big Brothers/Big Sisters organizations on Memorial Day and also hosted a youth football camp on Friday, June 22.
