Disney Harvest Truck

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla.,Oct. 11, 2006 -  As part of the celebration, Disney christened their newly designed Disney Harvest truck. The truck delivers food to 48 agencies each week and feeds over 1,000 children in

, Osceola and Seminole counties.  Last year the program served over 562,000 pounds of food.

Excess prepared food from locations throughout the Walt Disney World Resort, that has not been previously served, is picked up and distributed by the Disney Harvest truck in cooperation with the Second Harvest Food Bank of

Central Florida.

“We are excited to celebrate the 15th anniversary of this fantastic partnership between Walt Disney World and Second Harvest Food Bank of

Central Florida.  Over the years, the generosity of Walt Disney World and its Cast Members has provided thousands of meals to our hungry neighbors in need.  We hold the program up as a model of the many mouths that can be fed with a deeply involved and committed community leader, like Walt Disney World.”  Said Dave Krepcho, Executive Director, Second Harvest Food Bank of

Central Florida.

“The Walt Disney World Resort is committed to improving the lives of

Central Florida‘s children,” said Walt Disney World director of community relations Diane Ledder. “Through our work with The Second Harvest Food Bank, we are able to make a positive impact on the lives of thousands of children in our neighborhoods”.

The goal of Disney-Helping Kids Shine is to engage children in society by creating healthy, guiding relationships with adults, providing constructive free time activities, offering character-building opportunities, and encouraging a sense of compassion for others, while helping those children who face adversity. In 2005 alone, Walt Disney World Resort donated $23.2 million in cash and in-kind support to the community. Walt Disney World Cast Members also volunteered more than 203,198 hours to benefit local non-profit organizations.
