LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — Lovers can say “I do” all over again at one of the most romantic places on earth. Walt Disney World Resort, long recognized as a top honeymoon destination, has launched a program for couples reaffirming the matrimonial promise. Over the past 10 years, Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings has continued to see the trend of vow renewals on the rise, making that happily-ever-after a reinforced reality.
With vow renewals introduced by Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings, couples can declare true love on a palm-fringed hillside or pledge vows in Victorian splendor with Cinderella Castle in the background. Couples can enhance the special day with a ride in Cinderella’s glass coach, a private fireworks show, or even a visit from Disney characters.
For Barbara and Bill Dobo of Wrightville Beach, N.C., a 50th wedding anniversary celebration at Disney was a dream come true. A half-century ago, they exchanged vows in a modest ceremony in Maryland with little fanfare. So, for their big anniversary, they chartered a plane and hosted 60 of their closest friends and family at Disney for an elegant vow renewal with parties, park hopping and celebrations.
“It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for all of us,” said Barbie Dobo, the couple’s daughter. “My mother looked like a fairy tale princess in her gown, and my father was definitely the prince.”
Festivities included a private party at The Haunted Mansion in Magic Kingdom, the famous “Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue,” a VIP viewing of “IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth” and a ’50s themed party to commemorate the anniversary milestone. The event culminated with a traditional candlelight ceremony at Disney’s Wedding Pavilion. The children and grandchildren took part as the formal wedding party.
So why did the Dobos choose Disney as the site to host such a momentous event? It’s a great combination of romance, magic and fond memories of Disney, according to Barbie.
“My parents love Disney,” she said. “It’s kind of like a second home. They have been there 50-plus times.”
Walt Disney World Resort offers customized of vow renewals, from an intimate escape for two to an elaborate event involving the entire family.
“We are delighted that so many of our guests choose Walt Disney World as the venue to reaffirm their love and create unforgettable and magical memories through vow renewal,” said George Aguel, vice president of sales and services, Walt Disney Attractions.
Escape Wedding Collection vow renewals for two (from $4,500) include: an on-site wedding coordinator; choice of fresh-flower bouquet for the bride and boutonniere for the groom; violinist for ceremony and cake-cutting; elegant two-tier wedding cake and champagne toast; and four-hour limousine charter for transportation to and from the wedding ceremony and the reception from a Walt Disney World hotel. Nuptial locations include Sea Breeze Point at Disney’s BoardWalk, the wedding gazebo at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, Sunrise Terrace at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge or Disney’s Wedding Pavilion.
Escape Wedding Collection vow renewals require a minimum of four nights at a Walt Disney World owned-and-operated hotel.
