GR – Scope

The Government Relations department accomplishes its mission by identifying issues and possible impacts to our business that can be modified through the legislative and regulatory process; developing and maintaining relationships with elected officials in order to develop trust and enhance communications; working with elected officials on community projects of interest to their constituents and sharing with them information on community relations programs in their districts.  Examples include providing elected officials the names of Dreamers and Doers winners and inviting elected officials to participate in Walt Disney World, Co. (WDW) community events; providing tours of the resort, meetings with WDW leaders, presentations on company issues, invitations to special events (i.e. cruise ship dedication and Candlelight); and assisting elected officials and opinion leaders with tickets, reservations, VIP tours and other guest relations services, in keeping with the applicable ethics laws.  We also support political campaigns and events such as fundraisers, campaign walks and rallies; matching WDW executives with public service opportunities and board memberships and providing support for those service opportunities; and accumulating and evaluating information to assist in increasing internal awareness of community, state and federal issues.
