The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow debuts this fall at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., giving Walt Disney World Resort guests a chance to become immersed in the world of the four “Pirates of the Caribbean” films. Aspiring pirates will experience the story of Jack Sparrow like never before to discover if they have what it takes to join Captain Jack’s crew. Back for its second year, Car Masters Weekend features a free classic car show with a modern twist. Families can enjoy meet-and-greets with Lightning McQueen, Mater and Finn McMissile; a car show presented by Hess Express featuring more than 100 classic, muscle and exotic cars from the Muscle Car Network of Central Florida; a LEGO interactive zone; a DJ and a special appearance by automotive designer Chip Foose, who contributed to the design of Ramone in the “Cars” film. Confetti shines down as Disney Helping Kids Shine recipients receive their grants at the Orlando Repertory Theatre on May 16. Walt Disney World Resort awarded grants to 59 organizations that are expected to benefit an estimated 70,000 children in Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Lake and Polk counties.

The spirit of volunteerism filled the Boys & Girls Club of Lakeland on April 28, as Orlando and Tampa-based Disney VoluntEARS converged to build a playground at the facility with the help of the KaBOOM! organization and Girls, Inc.

Starting on May 25, Disney Channel stars Phineas and Ferb kick off a rockin’ summer celebration that visits the beach, the jungle and under the sea with favorite Disney characters and cherished Disney music – and it all plays out on Cinderella Castle, famed icon of Walt Disney World Resort as part of “The Magic, The Memories, and You!” As part of Disney’s “Let the Memories Begin,” the ten-minute, nighttime spectacle features photos of guests captured in the park that very day making memories — projected larger than life among the spires, towers and turrets of Cinderella Castle. Walt Disney World Resort will open the doors to its newest resort hotel with Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, a value property consisting primarily of family suites that immerse guests into the magical worlds of classic Disney and Disney•Pixar films. The Finding Nemo wings of the resort will open May 31; Cars will open June 18, and The Lion King will open August 10. The value rooms at The Little Mermaid wings will open on September 15.
