History on Display

Rare art, artifacts, books and documents spanning 400 years of African-American history are on display at Epcot’s American Adventure Pavilion. “Re-Discovering America: Family Treasures from the Kinsey Collection” draws on the extensive collection of Bernard and Shirley Kinsey, a Los Angeles couple with a passion for the rich history of African-American achievement and contribution. The exhibit from the Kinsey’s vast holdings (about 40 pieces will be on display on a rotating basis during the open-ended run) follows themes of hope, belief, courage, imagination and heritage and provides optimistic and empowering stories from voices not commonly seen or heard. To enrich the storytelling experience, Walt Disney Imagineers added interactive displays to the galleries. Touchscreens and guest-activated lanterns help bring the history to life, with comments provided by celebrity narrators. “Re-Discovering America: Family Treasures from the Kinsey Collection” is included in Epcot admission. Walt Disney World Resort is in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. (Kent Phillips, Photographer)
