LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Star Wars Weekends, the Force-filled fun-fest that takes place annually at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, returns to the Walt Disney World Resort galaxy every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from May 17-June 9, 2013.

A celebration of all-things-Star Wars, the special event is included in regular park admission to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.  Among the features: special Star Wars-themed parades, appearances by Star Wars celebrities, special additions to Jedi Training Academy, Star Wars-themed talk shows, behind-the-scenes presentations, limited-edition merchandise, a nightly dance celebration and more.  The centerpiece of the celebration is Star Tours: The Adventures Continue, the immersive 3-D attraction that speeds guests through worlds featured in the Star Wars saga.

This year’s event includes a nod to the 30^th anniversary of Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi, which debuted in theaters in May 1983.

Two Star Wars film legends – one who portrayed a villain and one who portrayed a hero – will double the fun in two consecutive weekends.  Action star Ray Park, who portrayed the Sith warrior Darth Maul on the silver screen, is one of the celebrity guests in Weekends I and II.  Actor Warwick Davis, known to Star Wars fans as everyone’s favorite Ewok, Wicket W. Warrick, is one of the guests during Weekends II and III.

Also showcased at the event: the largest collection of official Star Wars characters gathered at any theme park in the world, roaming the areas and posing for meet-and-greet and autograph opportunities in front of themed scenery.

A Pirate’s Adventure: Treasures of the Seven Seas

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – In time for summer, “A Pirate’s Adventure: Treasures of the Seven Seas” will be a new interactive adventure where Magic Kingdom guests participate in pirate raids throughout Adventureland. Pirate maps lead to fabulous treasures as guests join Captain Jack Sparrow and fight off the Royal Navy, Captain Barbossa, Headhunters, Curses and the greatest threat of all, Calypso the sea goddess. If they help Jack succeed in all the missions, they will be welcomed as part of his new crew. If not, they face the wrath of the cruel sea…alone. The adventure is divided into 5 different raids, each comprised of a series of interactive tasks. It takes approximately 20 minutes to complete all of the tasks in each mission. Guests may complete as many missions as they wish, but only those who complete all of the missions get to become full-fledged pirates under Captain Jack Sparrow.

Wilderness Explorers debuts at Animal Kingdom

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Coming soon, Disney’s Animal Kingdom guests will be invited to become Wilderness Explorers and experience the park in engaging and challenging ways aimed at deepening their understanding of animals and the natural world we live in. Taking the official pledge, armed with field guides and earning sticker badges along the way as they complete their challenges, guests explore the park at their leisure. Aimed at guests 7-10 but fun for the entire family, Wilderness Explorers will be self-guided and encourage more “up close and personal” time with the animal inhabitants of the park. Children’s Miracle Network Classic

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla.- The Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Classic returns to Disney’s Palm and Magnolia Golf Courses November 8-11, 2012, for its 42nd consecutive year of PGA TOUR play at the Walt Disney World Resort.

Central Florida’s longest-running professional golf event is aimed at improving the lives of children, and will be held just a short pitch and putt from the Magic Kingdom. The Classic’s two Joe Lee-designed courses annually provide a competitive environment for the 128-player field, while spectators are treated to a gorgeous backdrop of Florida woodlands and sparkling lakes.

Festival of the Masters Returns to Downtown Disney Nov. 9-11, 2012 

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Festival of the Masters presented by Michaels returns to Downtown Disney Nov. 9-11, 2012 for its 37th year. The prestigious open-air fine arts festival features nearly 150 award-winning artists, sidewalk chalk art, limited-edition fine art, photography, sculpture, jewelry, glass art, Disney collectibles, live music and more. The event takes place from 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday; 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday.

Art from an array of Disney artists also will be on display and available for purchase. The Disney Artist Village tent at Pleasure Island will feature Disney character art created by masters from various Disney disciplines, including Walt Disney Imagineering, the creative design and development arm of The Walt Disney Company. At the Art of Disney, artist Dave Avanzino will create art pieces using prop-like elements and fonts based on signs and attractions found around Disney theme parks. Both locations will feature artist appearances throughout the weekend.

For the first time ever, the event will feature an Emerging Masters area, where more than 30 juried up-and-coming artists will showcase works and compete for awards. Guests also can become part of the festival with interactive fun. Preview, Grand Opening Dates Set as Expansion Continues for New Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom Park

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – There’s more magic to come as the expansion of the New Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom- nearly doubling in size — continues at Walt Disney World Resort. Wreck-It Ralph Comes to Disney’s Hollywood Studios

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla.- Wreck-It Ralph and Vanellope Von Schweetz, from Disney’s newest animated adventure comedy “Wreck-It Ralph,” in theaters in 3D Nov. 2, will soon make their debut in a new character greeting experience at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Seventh Annual Old Spice Classic Continues Holiday Hoops Tradition at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – The seventh annual Old Spice Classic at Walt Disney World Resort continues the holiday hoops tradition with eight teams tipping off Thanksgiving weekend at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in one of the nation’s premier preseason Division I men’s college basketball tournaments.

This year’s Old Spice Classic, held Nov. 22, 23 and 25, boasts a strong field that features preseason Top 25 teams Gonzaga (No. 19) and Vanderbilt (No. 22) along with Clemson, Davidson, Marist, Oklahoma, UTEP and West Virginia.

The tournament tips off Thanksgiving Day with West Virginia vs. Marist at noon, followed by Vanderbilt vs. Davidson at 2 p.m., UTEP versus Oklahoma at 7 p.m. and finally Clemson vs. Gonzaga at 9 p.m. In all, there will be 12 games over the three days. Each team competes in one game per day and advances through a bracket-tournament format. The two undefeated teams face off in the championship game Sunday, Nov. 25 at 7 p.m. All games will air on ESPN networks.

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow Debuts

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla.- Pirates of the Caribbean: The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow debuts Dec. 6, 2012 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, immersing Walt Disney World Resort guests in all the action and adventure of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” film series.

Aspiring pirates will experience the story of Captain Jack Sparrow like never before to discover if they have what it takes to join his jolly crew. State-of-the-art technology brings the swashbuckling world of Captain Jack, from an eerie treasure cove to an epic ship-to-ship battle.

Splitsville Entertainment Complex Debuts 

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – The age-old image of bowling is about to change with the opening of Splitsville, America’s Bowling Alley, at Downtown Disney West Side this fall.

Splitsville’s 50,000 square feet, two-story location will be unlike traditional bowling alleys — with 30 lanes separated into several clusters to create a one-of-a-kind perspective immersed in hip and retro elements. (Aug. 14, 2012) – Starting this fall, Walt Disney World Resort guests will become the stars of “Phineas and Ferb & YOU: A Brand New Reality.” The virtual experience will allow guests to play with animated characters from Disney’s Emmy Award-winning animated series “Phineas and Ferb.” The fun happens at Downtown Disney West Side, next to Bongos Cuban Café Sept.1 – Dec. 1, from 2-9:30 p.m. daily.

How it works: As many as three guests are invited to stand inside the virtual experience set, and out of 20 randomly pre-determined animation segments, characters such as Phineas and Ferb, Agent P or even Dr. Doofenshmirtz will magically appear to play and dance alongside them. ‘Great Irish Hooley’ Festival Rocks Labor Day Weekend at Raglan Road Irish Pub & Restaurant in Downtown Disney

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Never heard of a “Hooley?”  Then it ‘s time to step up and experience Central Florida’s first Great Irish Hooley August 31-Sept. 3 at Raglan Road Irish Pub & Restaurant in Downtown Disney Pleasure Island.

The hooley – Irish slang for a party or celebration -will pack Labor Day weekend at Raglan Road with six top Irish bands playing traditional and rock tunes, Irish Dance Workshops for the whole family, structured set dancing called the Ceili (kay-lee) that’s a precursor to today’s country line dancing, Celtic face painting and authentic food and beverages.  Musicians will perform inside the pub and outside on the patio.

Celebrating their successful debut album, Full Set plays the festival Friday through Monday to begin a U.S. tour that includes the Milwaukee Irish Fest.  Elevation, the popular U2 Tribute band, plays sets on Saturday and Sunday.  Other great bands on tap are The Raglan Rogues, Danny Burns, Johnny “Snaggs” Norton and house band Creel.  The six-member, award-winning Raglan Road Irish Dancers perform throughout the weekend.  And renowned Irish dancer and choreographer Ronan McCormack of the original Riverdance cast will lead Irish Dance Workshops from Saturday through Monday.

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party Offers Happy Haunts for 23 Nights at Walt Disney World Resort 

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Ghouls and goblins gather at Disney for a bewitching Halloween spooktacular during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party beginning Sept. 11 at Magic Kingdom.

A pumpkin-orange glow and light fog along with ghostly silhouettes dancing atop the roofs of Main Street, U.S.A create lots of delight and not so much fright during this family-friendly, after-hours party.  Guests are invited to dress up in favorite Halloween costumes for trick or treating and more from 7 p.m. to 12 a.m. for 23 select nights.

Final Phase of Disney’s Art of Animation Resort ”The Little Mermaid” Opens September 15

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Guests are invited to slumber in Ariel’s colorful retreat at “The Little Mermaid” wing at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, opening Sept. 15 at Walt Disney World Resort.

Themed to one of the most celebrated animated films of all time “The Little Mermaid” will feature 864 standard hotel rooms that can sleep up to four guests. The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror Race Brings Scary Good Times Back to Walt Disney World

The new event is a reincarnation of The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 13K last held in 2009. runDisney’s first-ever 10-mile distance race will start at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex and finish near The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Runners will receive a finisher medal inspired by the Tower of Terror and then celebrate their achievement with friends and family at Disney’s Villain Hollywood Bash until 4:00 a.m.  The post-race party will feature food, entertainment, some of your favorite Disney villains and select attractions

Epcot International Food & Wine Festival Opens Sept. 28

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Epcot International Food & Wine festival returns Sept. 28-Nov. 12 for its 17^th year, with beer and cocktails joining wine at the center of the festivities, along with more than 25 Marketplaces with eclectic small tastes.

Among dozens of new dishes this year is shrimp ceviche at the new Florida Local Marketplace, and a buttery filet mignon with wild mushrooms at the Canada Marketplace. For vegans, a new marketplace, Terra, features Colorado chili that even carnivores might enjoy.  At the Dessert & Champagne Marketplace, bubbly gets paired with the new dessert trio. The relaxing atmosphere at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon is enhanced with new sounds of summer. For the first time, Calypso band “Tropicals” brings Caribbean steel drums to Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. every Friday through Sunday until July 15. The band can be found near the Crush ‘n’ Gusher water coaster pool area. Returning this year every day through September 8, characters Lilo and Stitch can be found just outside of the High N’ Dry sundries shop at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon; at Disney’s Blizzard Beach, guests can chill out with Goofy, who can be found roaming the water park.

New Dining Option

Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon guests looking for summer fare beyond the normal park offerings may visit Tropicalamity. The new temporary food and beverage tent, located near Crush ‘n’ Gusher water coaster pool area, features a variety of eats, including chicken jerk pita wrap, citrus chicken salad, hot meatball sub and cold Italian sub.

ESPN Wide World of Sports Attracts Top Youth Basketball Players

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – For four weeks in July and August, the nation’s top youth and high-school athletes will meet at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort to compete in the AAU Basketball National Championships. The competition features elite boys and girls and has historically been among the premiere collegiate basketball recruiting events in the nation. Hundreds of teams and thousands of players will participate July 3 through Aug. 4 with the hope to follow in the footsteps of previous AAU stars like Dwyane Wade, Dwight Howard, Carmelo Anthony and O.J. Mayo.

Epcot International Food & Wine Festival Reservations Open

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Beginning August 14, guests can make reservations for Party for the Senses and other special wine and culinary programs offered at the 17^th annual Epcot International Food & Wine Festival at Walt Disney World Resort.  Party for the Senses grand tasting events will take place Oct. 6, 13, 20, 27 and Nov. 3 and feature tempting bites from eminent chefs, more than 50 wines and beers and live entertainment. Additional programs, also requiring separate admission, feature a lineup of renowned winemakers, guest chefs and speakers participating in elegant dinners, luncheons, seminars and wine schools.  The Epcot International Food & Wine Festival, just named one of the Best Food and Wine Festivals by the Travel Channel, will take place for a record 46 days beginning Sept. 28. Authentic taste seminars, HGTV seminars, special book signings, Eat to the Beat! concerts, cultural adventures, Marketplace Discovery Passport and all attractions and park entertainment are included with regular Epcot admission. It’s “Hakuna Matata” For Vacationers at Lion King; Newest Phase to Open at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -The Pride Lands of Africa is the scenic setting for the “Lion King,” the third phase of Disney’s Art of Animation Resort set to open Aug. 10 at Walt Disney World Resort.  The new Lion King wing celebrates the journey of Simba, with landscapes and theming that reflect playful and poignant scenes from the Academy Award-winning Walt Disney Pictures animated film “The Lion King.”

In the new Lion King wing, guests embark on a journey through Africa with encounters with characters and scenic moments from the film at every turn. King Mufasa towers atop Pride Rock while his evil brother Scar slinks in the shadows beyond the elephant graveyard. There’s Pumbaa and Timon with a young Simba dancing across a log bridge in true carefree “hakuna matata” fashion. Scar’s crazed and comical hyenas “guard” the elephant graveyard, a play area sure to delight youngsters.

The storytelling comes to life inside the 320 family suites. Zazu takes center stage on the headboards while Pumba and Timon decorate the shower curtain. Youngsters can rest on a leaf-shaped chair or sleep alongside Simba who slumbers at the head of one of the beds.

Earlier this summer Disney’s Art of Animation Resort opened 320 “Finding Nemo” family suites and 480 “Cars” family suites. Opening in phases, each of four distinctly designed wings of Disney’s Art of Animation Resort celebrates rich storytelling, spirited characters, original sketches and playfulness with colorful icons and whimsical theming inspired by classic Disney and Disney•Pixar films.

The whimsical property, situated adjacent to Disney’s Pop Century Resort, offers rates from $248 per night. The 1,120 family suites include two bathrooms, a kitchenette and three separate sleeping areas that can sleep up to six. The 864 standard rooms at the “Little Mermaid” wing, opening in September, sleep up to four, with rates as low as $94.
